OUR Story

From Facing multiple felony charges to warming our community with 100% PLANT-BASED soul food

From being falsely accused and a wrongful arrest to fighting and feeding the black community. In 2016, Louis Hunter attended the protest of Philando Castle. Riots started and protesters wanted answers and justice. Louis was one of the protesters who was accused of throwing rocks at police officers. Louis was facing 20 years in prison if convicted of the charges. It took Louis over a year to fight the charges. Finally, in August 2017, the charges were dropped with the help of a couple he met while protesting. Dan and Sarah Woodcock arranged a protest and rolled out petitions to help claim his innocence.

The Woodcocks and Hunter both decided to do pop-ups and serve the community healthy and delicious food. Every time they did a pop up, they sold out. They decided to turn these pop-ups into something more permanent. Once again, the community came together to help Louis out but instead of helping him fight his innocence, they helped bring his vision to life. In 2018, Trio was born. The community helped raise over $50,000 for Louis and the Woodcocks to start and open their business. As things started to move fast, Louis became the sole owner of Trio in 2019. Trio Plant-based became the first Black-owned vegan restaurant in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
